We are generations old but our Lucerne is fresh as ever
The Kirkpatrick family have been farming at Kirkpatrick Road for 125 years.
We will be the 4th generation of Kirkpatrick’s to farm here and during this time the land has seen many droughts, floods and earthquakes but is very resilient and still produces the best lucerne around.
The farm is founded on heavy kaiti clay loam soils with high fertility and after many years of continuous cropping, the soil structure had been degraded and drove the need for change.
Lucerne was a great option to increase the sustainability of our operation offering a means of repairing and improving the soil structure and providing for future generations.
Based in the heart of the Gisborne District, the area is renowned for its intense sunny days. Home of vineyards, citrus orchards and great beaches, this makes for an amazing place to live and produces some of the best lucerne hay in the country.
Field to Farm – Direct
All of the lucerne is planted, harvested and loaded onto the truck by us, giving full control of the process end to end. This means we stand by the quality of our product and deliver full traceability for customers.
So as you may have guessed, we are pretty passionate about our land and providing a high quality product and passionate about sustainable practices so we can hand the farm on for generations to come.
